Overview

Enjoy this self drive tour in the South of Norway, this tour combines nature and culture -discover the most beautiful wooden churches, dating back to the middle ages –the Old Stave Churches. The church constructions are original and unique. Pass by Bergen, the old hanseatic city and Jotunheimen National Park without forgetting Norway’s, capital city – Oslo.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive at Oslo Airport/ Oslo – Lillehammer

Arrival at Oslo Gardermoen Airport and emigration reached to your parking and received your drive car and proceed for LILLEHAMMER.

Drive North until you reach the city of Lillehammer. In Lillehammer we recommend a visit to the Maihaugen Eco museum. Lillehammer is home to the 1994 winter Olympics.

Overnight stay at Lellihammer.

Day 2: Lillehammer – Sogndal

Breakfast at the hotel. Departure from Lillehammer and start your journey in a Western direction. Pass the village of Fagernes, continue next to the Jotunheimen national park. A recommended stop is to visit the stave church of Borgund, one of the small wooden churches dating back to the middle ages. Ferry crossing between Fodnes to Mannheller, arrival in Sogndal.

Day 3: Sogndal

Breakfast at the hotel. Today is at your leisure to explore the fjord and it’s beautiful surroundings. Sogndal is Norway’s deepest and longest fjord. We recommend a visit to the Urnes stave church listed as a heritage sight by UNESCO.

Day 4: Sogndal – Vik – Bergen

Breakfast at the hotel. Today you have a choice of route to reach Bergen. You can continue west until you reach the ferry crossing between Hella and Vangsnes from here you will arrive in Vik it is possible to visit another stave church, we recommend the Hopperstad church. Alternatively drive south to the Kaupanger where you can enjoy a ferry cruise (2 hours) along the sognefjord to Gudvangen. Continue your journey until you reach the Capital of the fjords. Bergen is Norway’s second largest city, worth visiting is the fish and flower market as well as the Fløien mountain.

Day 5: Bergen - Geilo

Breakfast at the hotel. Start your journey towards the East, and continue until you reach the ‘romantic’ Hardangerfjord. Cross the Hardangerfjord from Bruravik – Brimnes (ferry crossing approximately 10 minutes). Drive across the wild valley of Maabodalen and reach the Hardanger plateau where wild reindeers live in freedom.

Overnight stay at Geilo.

Day 6: Geilo – Kongsberg

Breakfast at the hotel. Today your journey starts in the direction of Numedal valley, here you can find the highest number of original stave churches Dagali, Uvdal, Nore and Flesberg.Kongsberg is a delightful city original established from silver mining.

Overnight stay at Kongsberg.

Day 7: Kongsberg – Oslo

Breakfast at the hotel. Today we recommend an excursion to the Heddal stave church. One of the biggest wooden stave churches, this church is located 20km West of Kongsberg. Afterwards continue your journey East towards Vestfoss and Drammen, until you reach Oslo. Welcome to Norway’s capital.

Day 8: Departure

Post breakfast transfer on your own to Oslo airport
